• Chair of Ocean Decade Initiative of IEEE OES

  • Nominated by Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO to attend the Workshop for the region of the Indian Ocean (including the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal), the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the ROPME/RECOFI area, and the North and South Pacific in support of the third cycle of the Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment, including Socioeconomic Aspects at Belitung, Indonesia from the 13th to 15th December 2022. Participated and took the role of rapporteur for Group I discussions wherein I could compile the discussions and present effectively to the Plenary session.

  • Elected as the Technology Committee Coordinator for the three-year period from 01 Jan 2023 to 31 Dec 2025 of IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society.

  • Organised Regional Planning Workshop for the Northern/Central Indian Ocean countries as well as ROPME sea area towards the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), from 8-10, January, 2020, Chennai, India.

  • Elected as Chair of Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission Regional Committee for the Central Indian Ocean (IOCINDIO) of Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO. As part of its activities, moved resolution at IOC Executive council meeting to revive IOCINDIO and take up projects in the interest of regional countries like capacity building, sea level rise establishment, pollution monitoring, water quality studies etc. Chaired Strategic scoping workshop and IOCINDIO VI meeting at Kuwait successfully. Same was reported to IOC Assembly and funding was obtained for the projects.

  • Bid successfully for the IEEE/MTS Oceans conference for 2022 along with IIT, Madras and and successfully conducted the conference for the first time in India as the the Co-Chair for the same.

  • Held Coastal Vulnerability Index workshop for IOCINDIO member states and IOCINDIO VII meeting in May 2019.

  • MoU was signed with Krylov State Research Centre, Russia for working in the area of Deep sea mining in July 2019.

  • Letter of Intents (LoI), were initiated, between Ministry of Earth Sciences and JAMSTEC (Japan), University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom), Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI), USA for cooperation in research in common areas of interest by ESSO-NIOT

  • New deployment of a Woodshole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI), USA, Air-Sea Interaction METeorology (WHOI ASIMET)-buoy in the Bay of Bengal was carried out by NIOT, Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) and WHOI team on board Ocean Research Vessel Sagar Nidhi from 24th November 2014 to 8th December 2014.

  • The Air Sea Interaction Research Initiative (ASIRI) and Ocean Mixing and Monsoon (OMM) a collaborative program between ESSO, India and Office of Naval Research, US conducted several programs including two cruises, one summer workshop and one Science Meet. Presented posters in the Science Meet conducted by the ASIRI-OMM project at Chennai during December 16-18, 2014.

  • Inter Laboratory Comparison (ILC) Test for Hydrophone Calibration with internationally acclaimed laboratories in Germany, Russia and UK has been successfully completed. Scientists from Germany and Russia participated in the meeting and it has been concluded that the results of comparison illustrated that calibration at NIOT conforms with the International standards and on par with the internationally acclaimed laboratories.

  • Co-ordinated the first ever the UN Workshop under the auspices of the United Nations, in support of the Regular Process for global reporting and assessment of the state of the marine environment including socio-economic aspects held at NIOT.

  • The International symposium on Underwater Technology (UT-15) was bid and got for India. Same was organised and conducted during February 23 – 25, 2015 in association with IEEE OES India Chapter and IEEE Japan Chapter. About 260 delegates from 17 countries participated in the symposium.

  • As one of the Indian team member, participated in the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System (IOTWS) meeting of United Nations, held at Malaysia in 2008 and at Hyderabad in 2009.

  • As main organizer in the “Workshop on Polymetallic Nodule Mining Technology – Current Status and Challenges ahead”, sponsored by Ministry of Earth Sciences and International Sea Bed Authority, presented the Indian Deep Sea Mining Scenario to the international community. Work being done in India was commended by members from Korea and China, who are the main players in this field.

  • Formulation of Project proposal for Autonomous Coring System, operating at 2000m water depth, for Gas Hydrates coring and taking part in contract finalization with Williamsons Associates, USA.

  • Formulation and execution of part of project on Design and Development of Remotely Operable Vehicle with Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia.

  • Interaction with United Nations Experts from UK, Japan, Poland etc. in the area of Flow measurements while working at FCRI, Palghat.

  • Active participation in execution of project on Design and development of Sand Mining system with University of Siegen, Germany.
